What size of needle should I use for knitting a scarf? 3

Apr 03, 2010 | Baby Scarf

I just thought of taking up knitting a few days ago… I go to the local grocery store and i see a whole bunch of different sized needles (0.7 mm or something?) and i really didn’t know what to choose, so i didn’t buy anything. i want to knit a scarf for my baby cousin’s birthday in three weeks, and i don’t know what size i should use. suggestions/tips, anyone?

It depends entirely on the weight of the yarn you’re using. If you check the ball band, it should tell you a range of sizes the manufacturer suggests for that yarn (look for a square with numbers on the sides, top, and bottom — this will tell you how many stitches and rows you should have over a given measurement).

If you go here: http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/label.html it will tell you more and show you some examples.

I spin and crochet all sorts of clothing, slippers, scarfs, gloves, hats, baby clothing and booties, adult tops and fun jewelry items. I want to create a web site somewhere free but don’t know where? Where is a good place?

A nice open source, free e-commerce system would be Zen Cart: http://www.zen-cart.com/
You’ll find there many site templates ready for use.

Knitting a baby blanket- some help please? 2

Feb 17, 2010 | Baby Scarf

My baby is due in may next year and I really want to knit a blanket and maybe make a teddy bear. I don’t know how to knit although I did a bit of a scarf a few years ago I kinda forgot but found it easy at the time anyway. Just wondering how long would it take to knit a baby blanket? Is there special yarn(?!) I need for a baby? We don’t know the sex of baby yet so I’ll make a white one for now. Is it possible to use a needle and thread after its finished to embroider something on for boy or girl? Any help appreciated. Oh yeah what kind of pattern do I use? I’m clueless but enthusiastic!

pom pom yarn makes a lovely blanket and could be adged in lace after baby here.It is knitted in garter stitch and your local wool shop would give you advice on starting and finishing it.UK is where i am based.

Do people buy knitted items on sites like ebay? 6

Feb 14, 2010 | Baby Scarf

Recently, I have started knitting as a hobby, and someone suggested to me that I sell my knitted items on ebay. I thought this was a pretty good idea, but I was just wondering if anybody has had luck trying to sell knitted stuff on ebay before. I was thinking of trying to sell knitted purses, scarves, baby or dog sweaters and blankets, armwarmers, and maybe regular size sweaters and blankets. So, do you think there would be demand online for these things? And if not, is there any other place I could try to sell them?

People do buy them, if the prices are reasonable–many people think handknit items should cost no more than something they can buy at a local mass merchandise store (X-Mart), but you need to price your work at at least 3 times the cost of the materials used. That said, anything hand-made that you offer for sale must be from a pattern of your own design, not a published pattern that you’ve changed slightly by using a different color or pattern, to avoid being sued for copyright infringement.
