Is covering your face a sign of insecurity?

Mar 07, 2010 | Face Scarf

I suffer from severe Anxiety and Borderline Personality Disorder. I feel more comfortable when I have part of my face covered. Either by having my hood up. Covering half of my face with a bandanna or a scarf. Or having sun-glasses on. Is this insecurity? Part of my Anxiety or what?

Yes, it is part of your anxiety and insecurity. Many people will do this if they are lying, nervous, or afraid. Try talking to a therapist and see if there is any way that you can help your Anxiety Disorder. It’s great that you recognize your behaviors! Good luck!

Not at all. As long as you don’t tell people about your disorders they probably won’t even notice. Lots of people who don’t suffer from disorders do that. Some people even think it is cool.

You should always push towards who you are around other people that hinder your money.

Perhaps, at a critical stage in your life, someone made fun of how you looked….or you were tormented by someone for a while…perhaps someone whose opinion mattered to you….or perhaps you are simply overly obsessed with your appearance because you have compared yourself to others in a way that is unrealistic (most magazines and ads for young women are done with people who prove to be incredibly photogenic (not necessarily beautiful) and also are touched up, and made into something so artificial with the lighting and makeup, that they are unrecognizable if you would meet them in real life) Many young women have a problem like this, and I am loathe to point the finger at the media, because my own mother also used to put her hand to her face whenever she laughed or smiled, because she had a gap between her front teeth, and although she was not self-conscious about it, the habit she had from when she was young stayed with her.
