Let your imagination rule. If it’s a wool scarf, wrap it around your neck a few times and tuck the ends. Or wrap it once around your neck, then tie it tightly (Chicago style).

If it’s a silk/satin scarf then use it as a lovely wrap for your hair or neck (of course).

Or what’s even more fun is if you attach an old watchface that you absolutely loved, and give it a new life by sewing it or hotgluing NEATLY to the scarf. Tie it tightly around your wrist and you’ve got a new, funky mod watch.

Hope that helps!

This may not be all of them as I do not want to offend anyone,
The majority that i have seen wear do not wear head cover, I saw a lady once that had it on her head and took it off and put it back on again, whats the deal?
Layla yes it is an obligation to cover your hair and to also dress modestly and it does not attract more attention I have worn the scarf for 7 years now and it is the opposite

i`m not sure whether they know exactly what islam is.. but i think the main problem is that they have mix up the culture with religion.. and they might not realise that they are not dressing like what islam ask to as they have been practising it for a long time… and i believe it happen to most of the non-arabic muslims too.. including my own race…

btw, i want 2 insist that covering head IS an obligation in islam.. not only dressing in moderately…
tq

I’ve seen people dressed black from head to toe. Women with just black scarves but face exposed and those who wear a scarf….bland but in jeans and simple prints. What’s the difference?
There is this literally wonderful couple who run a tobacco shop in our neighborhood. The woman always casts her head down and it’s obvious the husband rules without being bossy. She had the most beautiful little girl I’ve ever seen. I have just loved this little girl. She’s always been so happy and sweet. Now she’s at toddler age. She’s so friendly and "play ball" and "bye-bye" all the sweet wonderful things we love to see with kids. At first the the father was fine….now he almost is offended if she gets too much attention. I’ve been one that has heard of female circumscision and all the other things. I literally worry that this beautiful child is somehow going to be harmed to be submissable in some way. Is that true or is it a lie?

It’s possible to recognise someone you know from behind or at night, or if they are dressed differently, by their gestures, the way the walk, hold themselves, and so on.

I would say that people who are used to looking for their friend or relative in a group of similarly clad others will recognise them in the same way ~ gesture, movement, and so on.

It appears that it would be difficult because we are not used to it, but I think you would probably just get used to it after a while.

Cheers

Edited to add: Female genital mutilation is not practised by most Muslim people, although it does happen. It is usually a practice of a particular region, such as parts of Sudan. The submissive attitude you see is more about how the child is raised. It’s entirely possible that by the time she is 15, she will be giving her dad just as much trouble as most teens.

Don’t mistake his fears for his daughter as dislike. Many people from more traditinal societies find the freewheeling western culture a bit confronting, and he may be afraid his little girl will be kidnapped or molested (lots of non-Muslim parents are scared about this, too!).

Many people from conservative cultures feel that the ‘covering’ women wear is a protection from attracting the attentions of a rapist, so it makes sense daughters are encouraged to dress this way.

If you are concerned, start a conversation with the mother one day, I am sure you will discover the parents love their little one very much and she may be the reason they have come to your town, to give her a better life. It’s not uncommon

I’m looking to make money off of hobbies…I crochet a lot and make amigurumi, or crocheted stuffed animals. However, there isn’t a huge demand for these in America. I don’t want to make things like shawls and scarfs or candles…there’s just too much of that around already. I also think jewelry isn’t a great idea…I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t rather go to the mall and buy a cheap necklace. My question is, what is a crafty product that people would want to buy?

Art
People will buy pieces of art, sculpted, metalwork, paintings etc.
People will also buy cute stuff for their kids, like tutu’s, pillow cases, frilly skirts.
People all over the world will spend money on handmade quilts.

But honestly – a thing that is in serious demand these days is a good alterations person. If you can learn to alter clothing, you could make a lot of money. I know a girl who picks up jeans at Buckle on Friday, hems them and returns them the following friday to pick up more – She makes good money just doing that. A person who can hem, take clothes in and out, will always be able to make money.
Not a lot of girls are learning these things today, so the need is great and the available people are either swamped with what they have, or, they are not that good.
just my opinion.

i was hoping to wear it today to lol 8/9/08

You could wear it around your neck, tie it around your waist, put it in your hair, whatever.

Maybe tie it on the strap of your bag/purse or just wrap it around your neck and layer some plain clashing tank tops of similar colors of the scarf.

I just thought of taking up knitting a few days ago… I go to the local grocery store and i see a whole bunch of different sized needles (0.7 mm or something?) and i really didn’t know what to choose, so i didn’t buy anything. i want to knit a scarf for my baby cousin’s birthday in three weeks, and i don’t know what size i should use. suggestions/tips, anyone?

It depends entirely on the weight of the yarn you’re using. If you check the ball band, it should tell you a range of sizes the manufacturer suggests for that yarn (look for a square with numbers on the sides, top, and bottom — this will tell you how many stitches and rows you should have over a given measurement).

If you go here: http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/label.html it will tell you more and show you some examples.

As any junior high school student can tell you, your fashion is very important when it comes to what others think of you. Now maybe that isn’t the way it should be, but the idea that, “the clothes make the man,” (or woman, in our case) is simply, quite often, the truth. So what are we to do? Clothing, and how we wear it, is a chance to capture every moment and turn it into a celebration of life and fashion. It is our opportunity to invite attention and make a mark on people’s memories. And it is our chance to leave a lasting impression on everyone from the President of our firm to the lady who lives down the block.

While we all know those people who live in black from Monday to Sunday, we definitely remember the woman in the sequined blue shoes, or the guy who pick us up for a first date in a pink dress shirt! Surely the best example of clothing being a very important part of the equation is the billion-dollar wedding industry. Probably nothing is more important than the bridal gown. (Well, except for the happy couple, of course!) Not to mention the bridesmaids’ gowns and the flower girl’s dress. Even the tuxes become a crash course in men’s fashion.

And surely there are other life events we celebrate with clothing: our prom, first dates, job interviews, and New Year’s Eve parties. How often have you looked back at old pictures, and the first thing we notice is the styles of the day – Uncle Sal’s mint green leisure suit from the ‘70’s or your own cowboy boots and gauchos from 1985. Clothing marks more than generations and styles, it marks our lives and special times.

So why don’t we mark everyday occasions with the same planning and joy? And how do we create that atmosphere of “special” times? How do we sew those moments into the fabric of our lives? Why not mark every occasion – even a Saturday matinee with a new pair of shoes or even a second-hand scarf. Why not mark our everyday life with as many precious moments and mint green leisure suites whenever possible?

Take a daring plus size fashion risk and tie up your holiday memories of ‘08 with bright silk ribbons and blue checkered socks. Make this a day to look back on and remember!
